Biotechnix, the former research and development subsidiary of Enertechnix, Inc. conducted government-funded research primarily in the areas of aerosol sampling, trace explosives sampling, and personal exposure monitoring. The company received 27 government awards (SBIRs and BAAs) and successfully executed projects for the Departments of Defense, Homeland Security, Energy, and for USDA and NIH.
In 2018, the commercial business of Enertechnix was acquired by Valmet—the leading global developer and supplier of technologies, automation and services for the pulp, paper and energy industries. Biotechnix retained the patents and associated intellectual property rights from most of the R&D projects.
CEO, Biotechnix
Dr. George Kychakoff has more than 25 years of experience managing all aspects of industrial product businesses including financing, engineering, manufacturing, marketing, distribution via sales rep networks and intellectual property management. He founded Enertechnix in 1995 to design and deliver equipment and services for diagnosing and controlling combustion processes. In 2018, the commercial business of Enertechnix was acquired by Valmet—the leading global developer and supplier of technologies, automation and services for the pulp, paper and energy industries.
As President and CEO of Enertechnix, Dr. Kychakoff directed development of commercial products and supervised initial installations, raised equity funding from private investors, and developed profitable relationships with distribution partners.
In his prior role as General Manager of Babcock &Wilcox Diagnostic Technologies, Dr. Kychakoff exercised P&L responsibility for four profitable product lines. As Manager of Diagnostic Systems, he exercised P&L responsibility for the business acquired by Diamond Power Specialty Company (DPSC) from Weyerhaeuser Company. As Manager of Research and Engineering for Weyerhaeuser’s Sensor & Simulation Products Division, Dr. Kychakoff directed the development of new products for monitoring chemical recovery boilers. He started his professional career at Stanford University, as a graduate student and eventual member of the Mechanical Engineering faculty where he was responsible for directing the efforts of several research professionals and graduate students, and created new research programs.
Dr. Kychakoff holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University, an M.S. in Engineering and Applied Science from Yale University, and a B.Sc. (Hons) in Physics, from Australian National University. Dr. Kychakoff has earned 20 patents, and has authored more than 40 technical papers in applications of laser spectroscopy, optical and acoustic sensing, and digital flowfield imaging techniques.
Director of Research & Development
Dr. Peter Ariessohn was most recently Vice President of Research and Development at Enertechnix, where he established the company’s R&D organization and grew it to $1 million annual revenue in five years.
During his work with Enertechnix, Dr. Ariessohn raised $10 million in government grants and contracts over 10 years. Dr. Ariessohn managed a group of scientists and engineers performing government contract R&D in the areas of aerosol sampling, concentration and measurement (primarily for bio-aerosols), surface sampling for trace explosives residues, and personal exposure monitoring for allergens and bacteria. The organization established a strong reputation for innovation and successful project execution.
Dr. Ariessohn has served as principal investigator on 20 federally funded projects supported by the Departments of Homeland Security, Defense, and Energy, and the National Institutes of Health. He managed the development of an aerodynamic lens aerosol concentrator that was selected by the DOD for inclusion in the RAAD detector. He also managed the development of a non-contact trace explosives surface sampler, as well as development of an automated personal exposure monitor that can be used to conduct epidemiological studies of personal exposure to pathogens, allergens or chemical agents.
Prior to his role at Enertechnix, Dr. Ariessohn served at Weyerhaeuser Company for 21 years where, as Senior Engineering Advisor, he was responsible for several major product development projects—each of which resulted in plant-worthy instruments that were successfully deployed in industrial environments, and two of which were ultimately commercialized by Enertechnix.
Dr. Ariessohn earned an A.B. in Physics at Johns Hopkins University, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University.
